The Rust programming language
Mix It Up
Largely unnoticed by the public, the Mozilla Foundation is tinkering with its own programming language, Rust, which is intended to make writing reliable, fast, and concurrently running applications easier. For this purpose, the developers are borrowing generously from other languages.
According CTO Brendan Eich, Mozilla is currently creating the programming language of the future in the form of Rust. For one thing, Rust is claimed to offer more security than C++; for another, it will bring comprehensive parallel programming to the web browser.
Developer Graydon Hoare began work on Rust back in 2006; three years later, the Mozilla Foundation took over the helm. Nonetheless, it took until January 2012 before the first version appeared with the number 0.1.
