A meme crowning assembly the top programming language leads to a look at machine and assembly languages.
There was a discussion on Facebook regarding different programming languages, including assembly language, and their value in the programming universe.
The discussion was inspired by a meme showing "Assembly" up on a throne, with "C" and "C++" on either side and many of the other languages bowing down to them.
This meme inspired writings debating the value and uses of the various languages. There were a lot of misconceptions that sprang into the discussions, and I hope to clear up some of these misconceptions in a simple manner.
