Linux Mint is one of the popular Debian derivatives, and Cinnamon is the desktop environment developed in-house by Linux Mint. The 22.1 release ("Xia") is a long-term support release with updates until 2029.

This release includes major changes. To start with, Linux Mint 22.1 includes modern replacements for Aptkit and GDebi, providing more translations and more maintainable development. Other changes include:

  • A new power-saver balanced mode
  • The ability to adjust the screen to changes in light
  • A more Wayland-compatible interface
  • The ability to display notifications over full-screen windows
  • Keyboard shortcuts and optimization for the Nemo file manager
