Android Continues to Grow in the Mobile Market
ComScore reports a major gain for the mobile operating system.
Digital trend measurement firm comScore released data from their Mobilens service, that revealed an increase in Android market share. The study, which compared the average number of Android deployments from December 2009, January 2010, and February 2010 against March, April, and May 2010, found that Android deployments had risen 4 percent.
What's more, the number of all other mobile phone operating systems studied saw a decrease in the number of deployments. Windows mobile fell the hardest with a 1.9 percent decrease, Apple dropped a percentage point and Palm and RIM fell by 0.6 percent and 0.4 percent respectively. The study went out of its way to point out that sales of the iPhone 4 were not factored into the final numbers, as it came out in June.
The study also showed predictable increases in mobile content usage. Mobile-to-mobiel text messaging increased by 1.4 percent, browser usage rose by 2.3 percent and downloaded app usage was up 2.1 percent. The largest single content usage increase, however, was social networking and blog access. It rose 2.6 percent. The single largest OEM from March 2010 to May 2010 was Samsung with 22.4 percent of the market.
