Dovecot 1.2 IMAP Server with New Plugins
The new IMAP and POP3 server Dovecot is available in version 1.2. It supports further extensions of the IMAP protocol and provides new plugins.
The newly implemented IMAP extensions include CONSTORE, QRESYNC, ESEARCH, ESORT and CONTEXT=SEARCH. Dovecot 1.2 also incorporates the IMAP response codes as described in RFC 5530.
Also new is support for shared mailboxes and an IMAP ACL extension. Maildir directories contain the mail files that inherit the same permissions and group IDs as the mailbox directory. Earlier the file permissions were set to 0600 for all new files.
Dovecot also includes new plugins. With virtual mailboxes, search results can be defined as a mailbox, for example. The autocreate plugin creates mailboxes automatically for new users. The listescape plugin allows mailbox names to have illegal characters, such as a dot in a Maildir++ layout.
Dovecot 1.2, under LGPLv2.1 and MIT licensing, has its open source code ready for download. Binary packages for Red Hat, CentOS and Fedora are available.
