Maemo Update to Allow N900 to Dual Boot with MeeGo.
Not the full experience, but we'll take what we can get.
The MeeGo blog has confirmed that the upcoming update for the Nokia N900 (PR 1.3), will allow a dual-boot option between MaeMo and MeeGo. Considering Intel's recent announcement that the smartphone market won't be getting an official MeeGo device until 2011, users eager to try the OS out on a phone are going to have to take what they can get.
An interesting note for developers, the dual-boot feature allows for testing Qt apps in both operating systems. App development for both MeeGo and Maemo are based on Nokia's Qt development APIs, allowing apps to be written on a PC and then transfered to both Maemo and MeeGo.
Nokia told the MeeGo blog that the N900 is used as a development hardware platform and that there is no plan to implement the dual-boot option in commercial software releases.
