New Version 9.0 Mini Linux Distro TtyLinux
TtyLinux, the Linux distribution that makes minimum demands on hardware , has been updated to version 9.0. Codenamed Rigel, the release comes with upgraded kernel and improved software.
The kernel has been boosted from v. 2.6.20 to 2.6.30.5 and the GNU library pumped up to 1.9. Busybox version 1.14.3 is also on board. Developers have activated the cron function in the multipurpose binary and removed the telnet services.
Since the first version 9 release candidate, the package manager has installed Pacman software via HTTP from online repositories. When booting, TtyLinux starts FTP and TFTP servers. Further details can be found in the changelog.
Goal of the TtyLinux Project is to produce a resource-sensitive distribution that despite its size, contains up-to-date software and in principle, is hardly different from larger distributions. The current kernel supports state of the art hardware like, e.g, SATA drives. TtyLinux runs on PCs with at least a 486SX processor with a X86_64 variation also available. Running Ramdisk will require 24 MB memory. Hard disk installation will need 8 MB of space but will do with 16 MB RAM.
TtyLinux can be downloaded as ISO image, binary and source text packages from the project website.
