Oracle Linux 6.4 Announced
Oracle Linux 6.4 offers access to Dtrace and support for the XFS filesystem.
The Oracle Linux team has announced the availability of Oracle Linux 6.4. Oracle Linux is a derivative of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. The latest release ships with two sets of kernel packages; both the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel Release 2 and the Red Hat Compatible Kernel are installed by default.
The company also recently announced support for XFS filesystem in Oracle Linux. The XFS filesystem is a high performance journaling filesystem offering “fast transactions, extreme scalability, and near native I/O performance,” according to the Oracle website. XFS support is offered on the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel R2 and also with the Red Hat Compatible Kernel.
Users of Oracle Linux now also have access to DTrace for Oracle Linux. DTrace is a dynamic tracing framework that was originally developed for the Oracle Solaris operating system. It provides information that allows users to tune and troubleshoot the operating system. DTrace helps find performance bottlenecks and provides insight into systems, enabling reduced downtime, lower cost, and more efficient utilization of resources. Supported Oracle Linux users can download DTrace from the Unbreakable Linux Network. For further details, please see the Oracle Linux 6.4 release notes.
