Mandriva Fork Mageia 1 Unveiled
Nine months since forking from Mandriva Linux, Mageia rolls out first release.
Community supported Mageia 1 offers KDE, Gnome, XFCE4, LXDE, and other lightweight desktop environment options; popular applications, including Thunderbird and Firefox; LibreOffice and additional office apps, such as Skrooge and GnuCash; and several messaging, IRC, and VoIP options. VirtualBox, WINE, Gimp, Inskcape, and several IDEs are also included. See the release notes for a full list of what you'll find under the hood.
The Mageia 1 announcement recognizes team contributions, but also acknowledges that the project benefits from outside contributions. "And we’re all gratefully aware of the amazing work of people at Mandriva, KDE, GNOME, Xfce, LXDE, the Linux kernel team, the FSF and all the many, many people writing free software – thanks to you all for inspiring us and making the great software that forms the foundation of Mageia," the announcement says.
