The developer team at the Ubuntu firm Canonical has finally released the complete source code of its hosting and collaboration tool Launchpad to the community.

Onur Küçük announced the release of Pardus 2009, the latest version of the Linux distro used widely in Turkey which takes its name from Panthera pardus, an endangered species of Anatolian leopard.

The Mozilla Labs Design Challenge competition was looking for new possibilities for browser tab design that was getting somewhat long in the tooth over the years. The winners of the challenge have now been announced.

The Sidux Linux distro now appears in version 2009-02 as based on Debian and with Kernel 2.6.30, KDE 4.2.4 and free sofware as usual.

The KDE team are to work closer with Kwin developers to reinforce the integration of the KDE window manager into the project. The announcement was made at the end of the joint Gnome and KDE Gran Canaria Desktop Summit that came to a close July 11.

Market researcher Forrester Research investigated the suitability of database systems for enterprise deployment and found that the Ingres and MySQl alternatives take the lead positions after IBM, Oracle and Microsoft.

Because Lukas Hetzenecker couldn't find a Linux alternative to Nokia's PC suite, he proceeded to write his own with Python and Qt4. The result is now available in version 0.3.

KDE developer Frank Karlitschek announced the launch of the Open PC Project at the Gran Canaria Desktop Summit. Goal of the project is to assemble a PC fit for optimal use of Linux and free software.
