Natural language technology has seen significant improvement in the last few years due to the evolution of machine-learning methods, which are gradually replacing traditional rule-based techniques. In the mobile domain, Siri and Google Voice Search are showing that natural language will play a bigger role in the development of future applications.
These apps understand what users are saying and can translate natural language queries into requests for local discovery and control over your phone. Maluuba has emerged in this space with its flagship personal assistant app for the Android platform, which will soon to be released as a Windows Phone 8 application.
But you don't need a smartphone to get started with natural language processing. In November, 2012, Maluuba announced that they were making their natural language tools available online for users who want to integrate natural-language processing into their own applications. Maluuba's natural language API, nAPI [1], allows developers to build cutting-edge natural language processing into their own applications.
