Backup Specialist Arkeia Takes over Kadena Systems
The French-U.S. firm Arkeia Software is taking over Kadena Systems, the California backup provider specializing in eliminating redundancies.
The beginning of 2009 Arkeia reported an infusion of new cash from the U.S. as part of their restructuring. Headquarters moved from Paris back to San Diego and Bill Evans became its CEO. For an undisclosed sum, Arkeia is now acquiring Kadena Systems, founded in 2004, with immediate benefit and hopes of getting further incursion into the data security market of virtual environments. The basis is a techology from Kadena on backup and archiving known as the PocketCache product that is implemented on Sandisk hard drives.
The technology eliminates data redundancy at the source, meaning the client. Arkeia intends to implement the technology in its data security software and thereby promises much faster backup speeds. Arkeia sees particular application in virtual environments, where corporate networks are typically "oversupplied" with low-cost virtual servers. According to the scenario, many test systems with their own operating systems and applications produce large amounts of redundant data, against which Arkeia now wants to provide a solution with the Kadena software.
Technical lead at Kadena Systems, Tamir Ram, will become chief developer at Arkeia after the takeover. Technical support for previous Kadena users should continue as usual.
