Chrome Browser Overtakes Apple Safari Per Net Applications
If the newest statistics from Net Applications are to be believed, Google's Chrome browser has surpassed in market share Apple's KHTML engine-based Safari browser in December 2009 by a few tenths of a percentage point.
Chrome's growth doesn't so much reflect on Safari's account as it does on Internet Explorer's and partly Firefox's. According to the statistics, Chrome gained 0.7% market share from November to December to 4.6%. All the combined Microsoft browsers lost almost a percentage point during that period to rest at 62.7%.
Safari also gained a tenth of a percentage to a 4.5% in December, with Opera also gaining a bit to 2.9% (including the 0.5% for Opera Mini). The remaining browsers came to under 0.7%. By Net Application's December statistics, Firefox was at 24.6%, at a loss of 0.1 of a percentage point over November.
Net Application's findings are just one part of the story. According to other statistics, such as those by w3schools.com, Chrome was already at 8.5% in November in browser usage, with Firefox at the top with 47%.
