Qualcomm Innovation Center, Inc. Joins The Linux Foundation
QuIC goes platinum.
The Linux Foundation announced today that Qualcomm Innovation Center joined the foundation as the newest platinum member. QuIC president Rob Chandhok will join The Linux Foundation as a board member.
“What you're seeing is a maturity of the mobile ecosystem,” Chandok said at LinuxCon 2010.
QuIC develops open source software for mobile devices, a market that Linux Foundation executive director Jim Zemlin sees as an keystone market for Linux. The Linux Foundation's website even goes as far as to call embedded Linux the future of the open source operating system. Already, the Linux kernel is at the heart of Android, WebOS, MeeGo and others.
“QuIC's membership in The Linux Foundation represents the evolution and growth of the Linux operating system and its increasing use in the mobile consumer electronics markets,” said Zemlin.
QuIC joins existing Platinum members include Fujitsu, Hitachi, IBM, Intel, NEC, and Oracle.
