It's official: Microsoft's Office Open XML format (OOXML) has been accepted as a new standard at a second hearing

The Linux company Red Hat has acquired system integrators Amentra and is now seeking to strengthen its Jboss business unit.

The ISO standardization organization meeting convened to discuss OOXML has now come to an end and contradictory reports on the proceedings have caused some concern. So much so, that ISO has now issued a statement.

The EU Commission is looking to investigate whether Microsoft illegally attempted to influence the standardization process for its own OOXML document format.

The annual developers’ conference FOSDEM will take place in Brussels on February 23 and 24, 2008. As a teaser, organizers of the open-source event have now placed interviews with some of the speakers online.

Version 4.0.0 of the server-based backup and recovery software, Restore, has just been released. The developers have fixed various bugs in this version, and packetized the GPL'd software for Debian/Ubuntu systems.
