Even if you are new to open source software, you've probably heard of Inkscape, a versatile and powerful vector drawing application. But as with any powerful tool, you have to put considerable time and effort into mastering Inkscape's tools and features. Fortunately, the Web provides a plethora of resources and tutorials to get you started, including regular screencasts at the screencasters.heathenx.org Web site. What I like most about these screencasts is that they show you not only how to get to grips with Inkscape's basic functionality, but also demonstrate more advanced and sometimes less conventional uses of this vector drawing package. The screencasts will teach you how to design a business card, a DVD software box, logos, buttons, and wallpapers. But that's not all. Watching the screencasts, you can learn how to create slick charts and graphs, design magazine covers, and use Inkscape as a desktop publishing tool. In other words, even if you are not a graphical designer, the screencasts can help you to turn Inkscape into an indispensable productivity tool.

Dmitri, while I'm here, your OSS articles are great. Keep up the good work!

PS Have you guys ever thought of doing videos for Scribus? There is a real need out there for the quality of videos you produce (taking a quality project from beginning to end). I haven't seen anything like you guys do in any Scribus vidcasts. They mostly look like amateur hour re: projects.

    Please do something with Scribus.

Your videos get big ups here as well...twice. It's the Canadian soccer forum where I post news and links to OSS software. In the General Off-Topic Discussion section it's the most read thread by far... 15,000 views.

Wow, thanks so much for linking to our site. The above commenter is correct though. The proper link is just: http://screencasters.heathenx.org

Thanks again for the nice mention!
  • inkscape screencast link is broken

I'm excited about the screencast, and I wanted to inform you that the heathenx link above is broken.
