Linus Torvalds: His Own Blog
A few days ago Finnish kernel developer and Linux founder Linus Torvalds started his own blog on Blogger.com.
To confirm that the blog really was his, Torvalds said in a NetworkWorld article, "Yes, yes, it's me. A 'fake Linus' would hopefully try to be entertaining."
Those hoping for exciting insights into kernel development may be disappointed for now. The title of the blog is "Linus' Blog: Eventually this might even contain some Torvalds family pictures." So far it includes items of a more personal nature. Linus talks about his life in the U.S. and the presidential elections. He decided to become a blogger after a friend set one up for himself with links to family photos. Because Torvald's blog is open and already appears on Digg.com, he says that he "set it up as a trial... but I'm not sure we'll actually ever post pictures of the kids (privacy etc.)"
He would prefer to blog about topics, in an interview manner, that don't have their normal place on the Kernel and GIT mailing lists. As he says, "it's likely about something tech-related and probably linux-related, since that's what I'd do." Some interesting things have already come out of it. For one thing, he's "impressed" by the solid state disks from Intel, despite their application to competing systems. Numerous comments in response to his blog have already appeared, but Torvalds has no fear of trolling because he posts once a week only and does not respond to the comments.
