AI in the Kernel
How should open source projects manage the proliferation of AI-generated patches? Can such patches even be identified, if the people submitting them don't want to say? And even if they are identified, is it even important, if what we really care about is the quality of the patches themselves?
These questions and questions like them are everywhere these days, and we all have to deal with them in one way or another. I'm personally very interested in the Linux project's discovery of its own approach to these things, because I think of Linus Torvalds as having a very algorithmic approach to the culture of Linux development. The way things go in this community will likely pave a road many others may want to follow.
Part of the Linux community's approach to defining its own culture is the way developers complain and wrestle with each other over these things, often finding ways to take account of pretty much everyone's concerns – though not always.
