Civic Hacking Day Announced

Jan 25, 2013

National Day of Civic Hacking events are being planned across the USA.

The US National Day of Civic Hacking will take place June 1-2, 2013, according to a recent announcement from the Office of Science and Technology Policy.

According to the event’s website, the National Day of Civic Hacking “will bring together citizens, software developers, and entrepreneurs from all over the nation to collaboratively create, build, and invent new solutions using publicly-released data, code and technology to solve challenges relevant to our neighborhoods, our cities, our states and our country.”

National Day of Civic Hacking events will take place in cities across the United States with the goal of creating technology-based solutions at the federal, state, and local government level.

If you wish to participate, you can sign up to plan your own event, such as a hackathon, a meeting, or a block party. You can also contribute pertinent data or code, or submit your own idea for a coding challenge. According to the announcement, federal agencies, including NASA, the US Census Bureau, and the US Department of Labor, will be offering specific challenges for hackers during the event.
