Linux Mint 27 Set for a Christmas Release

Oct 20, 2026

The developers behind Linux Mint have announced a Christmas release, and it looks like Santa's sack will be brimming with features.

Linux Mint has migrated from an every 6-month release cycle to every 12 months, and the release of Linux Mint 27 (aka "Adrien") is set to be released during the Christmas holiday season.

Ho. Ho. Ho.

“I’ve been working on Linux Mint for more than 20 years now. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many changes and new features implemented for a single release. It’s really exciting, and it scares me a little bit because that also means we’re going to be very busy during the beta phase,” says Mint founder Clement Lefebvre.

As to what's new, Linux Mint 27 will arrive with even more new apps, such as Superlight (a new system monitor), Unfold (a new archive manager), Clocks (recurring alarms), Clockenstein (a new calendar app), Xepub (an ePub reader), and Velocity (a new terminal emulator).

That's a whole lotta new for one release. This is all on top of a massive amount of bug fixes, continued work on Wayland compatibility, prototyping new editions, and improving their processes and internal tools.

Given that Mint is now going to have a full year between releases, it's no surprise that there will be more exciting additions for each iteration.

As for the change from la femme to l'homme names, the developers decided that, since they'd reached the end of the alphabet (the last release being Zena), it was time to change genders.
