FOSDEM 2008: Ready to Rumble with Program, Beer and Live Video
The organizers of the European developer conference, FOSDEM, which is taking place this weekend in Brussels, expect around 4000 attendees. Linux Magazine will be on site and streaming the Open Source event live on the Internet.
According to the organizers, FOSDEM, which is taking place for the eighth time, is the biggest European event for developers of free and Open Source software. Entrance to the talks and workshops at the Solbosch Campus of the Free University of Brussels is free of charge. Linux Magazine is streaming the talks from the main track in the main auditorium live and free at streaming.linux-magazin.de.
The conference website now has a legibly formatted schedule and a detailed program which users can download.
Free software projects can use developer rooms for workshops. These personal meetings are often an excellent opportunity to discuss and define the direction of future development work.
For example, the Opensuse project will be introducing the recently appointed Community Manager, Joe "Zonker" Brockmeier, to the community. On top of this, the project will be discussing priorities for the new release, Opensuse 11, and focusing on the build service and the new Zypper package management tool.
Developers from the KDE, Gnome, Debian, Fedora, X.org, Mozilla, Open Office projects, and from other projects all over Europe, and even worldwide, will be traveling to FOSDEM. The unofficial kick-off is on Friday and will give attendees an opportunity to sample Belgium beer and generally network.
