Intel Starts Program for Atom Developers
Mobile applications, popularized by iPhone and Android, are getting some further encouragement from chipmaker Intel and its Atom platform.
An Intel Atom Developer Program announced at the current Intel Developer Forum focuses on the energy-saving Atom mobile processor. Targets for the applications are netbooks and the mobile internet devices (MID) introduced by Intel.
The challenge is directed to developers that have specialized in applicable systems and runtime environments such as Moblin, Windows, Java and Adobe Air. Intel will provide prospective participants a portal and will follow up with an SDK.
Apart from the usual help given to developers, the Atom Developer Program promises marketing opportunities. Completed applications can be sold at the Intel AppStore or distributed freely. End-users can load AppStore on the device and get recommendations for apps to buy and download. The program motto is "Learn. Develop. Sell." With these three phases, Intel invites developers into the free process.
