New Sidux Release Based on Debian Sid
Shortly before the project’s first anniversary, Sidux 2007-04, code name "Eros" has just been released. The distribution harvests packages from Debian Sid.
The Sidux developers place emphasis on the installation of the distribution, working updates, and support for additional hardware and software, adding their own packages and scripts to the existing Debian basis.
From a technical point of view, the distribution is state-of-art: Sidux includes X.org 7.3 and Xrandr 1.2, along with a very recent kernel, version 2.6.23. Eros supports additional WLAN cards thanks to the mac80211 stack (Broadcom b43/b43legacy, Ralink rt2x00) and includes Open Source drivers for graphics chips. The GUI desktop is KDE 3.5.8.
Two versions are available for downloading: a lite variant that weighs in at 445MB and has a lean version of KDE, and a KDE full version, with a 680MB footprint. Further details are available in the Release Notes.
