Open Office 2.3 was officially released today. The latest Version of the office suite includes many new features and improvements, and is said to have better performance. Among other things, it will feature a diagram module a report generator and an OOo writer filter for Wikis.
The diagram module in Chart (OOo's answer to Excel) has been completely reworked. According to the developers the improvements will mean better rendering speed and 3D functionality speed. The wizard has also been reworked.
Version 2.3 includes a new report generator for Base. The report generator was implemented as an extension. The developers have also used the ability to extend functional scope by adding extensions in other areas of the office suite.
The Writer word processor now gives users the ability to store their work directly in MediaWiki format. Title formats that conflict with the Wiki's stylesheet are removed. The Wiki Export Filter specsheet has more details on the new extension.
The Impress presentation module has also been revamped and extended, as have language support, and the handling of PNG graphics when exporting to HTML. The Calc spreadsheet has new table functions. All changes, enhancements and new features are detailed in the Release Notes.
Following the official release, Open Office 2.3 will now be available on project pages. The new version is available for downloading from various mirrors right now.
