Linus Torvalds in Live Streaming from LinuxCon
The Linux Foundation will be holding its first LinuxCon conference from September 21 through 23 in Portland, Oregon. Linus Torvalds and Mark Shuttleworth will be among the speakers, and Linux Pro Magazine Online will do a live stream, free for the keynotes.
"All matters Linux" is the theme of the Linux Foundation's LinuxCon event. Anyone interested in the theme is invited, including users, kernel developers, administrators, and industry experts alike, and the program is correspondingly varied. The gathering is also a rare occasion to see and hear Linus Torvalds, who will participate in a panel discussion about kernel development with Greg Kroah-Hartman, Chris Wright, Jonathan Corbet, James Bottomley, and Arjan van de Ven. The list of prominent participants includes Ubuntu founder Mark Shuttleworth, Debian developer Bdale Garbee, openSUSE community leader Joe "Zonker" Brockmeier, and IBM chief Bob Sutor.
A runup to LinuxCon is a "Who's Linux" competition sponsored by the Linux Foundation in which four well-known industry and community leaders will impersonate Linus Torvalds on Twitter and Identi.ca. The Foundation presents its Fake Linus Torvalds (FLTs) in an amusing video with rap music. A community Internet vote will determine the winning "fake" and present the coveted "Silver Penguin" award at the conference along with the true identity of the FLT.
So that as many as possible can attend LinuxCon, the Linux Foundation will partner with Linux Pro Magazine Online to present a live stream of the big event. The complete three days of live streams cost US$ 99. The keynote streams will be offered for free, as is the round table with Linus Torvalds on September 21 at 2:00 PM Pacific Time. The complete program is on the Linux Pro Magazine Online webpage.
