Today Google announced plans to bring its ultra high-speed fiber network to Kansas City, Kansas.

Google Summer of Code has brought together over 4,500 students from around the world with over 300 open source projects and together have created millions of lines of code.

The award for best eHealth solution using Free Software is awarded to Haakon Eriksen and David Sugar who received 100,000 Norwegian kroner (17,500 USD) on behalf of the GNU Free Call project from Driv Inkubator and the Norwegian Competence Center for Open Source during the GoOpen Conference this week.

“Stronger definition of network behavior in software is a growing trend, and open interfaces are going to lead to faster innovation,” said Nick McKeown, ONF Board member and professor at Stanford University.

Google has announced the accepted projects list for its 2011 Google Summer of Code (GSOC) Program.

Day two of the CeBIT Open Source Forum 2011 kicks off Wednesday, March 2, and will be streamed live by Linux New Media, AG.
