Fedora 45 Now Available

Nov 05, 2026

The latest iteration of Fedora has arrived with Gnome 51 and KDE Plasma 6.8.

Fedora 45 has arrived just six months after release 44. In those six months, much has changed. Fedora 45 features the latest versions of Gnome (51) on the flagship edition and KDE Plasma (6.8) on the KDE Fedora spin, as well as kernel 7.2.

Another big addition is kmscon, which is the new default userspace virtual terminal console that replaces the legacy fbcon (frame buffer console). Instead of drawing text inside the Linux kernel, kmscon does it in user space and renders the output using Kernel Mode Setting/Direct Rendering Manager (KMS/DRM). What this delivers is modern Unicode and fonts, XKB keyboard layouts, mouse and copy/paste support, and multi-seat capability.

Another key feature is web-based installation for Fedora Atomic desktops, thanks to the new Anaconda Web UI installer, which provides secure remote installation and integrated Stratis Storage support.

Of course, the toolchain has also been upgraded, including GCC 16.2, GNU Binutils 2.47, GNU C Library 2.44, GDB 17.2, LLVM 23, Go 1.27, RPM 6.1, Perl 5.44, OpenSSL 4.0, Lu 5.5, Python 3.15, and much more.

You can check out the official Fedora 45 release notes for the full details and download the ISO from the Fedora Project site.
