Sorting through the array of note-taking tools and their features can be overwhelming. We look at two applications that offer a simple approach.
Note-taking tools are staples of productivity, which probably explains the cornucopia of Linux software for taking and managing notes. But, besides popular applications like Tomboy and BasKet Note Pads, many other lesser known and quirky note-taking tools are waiting to be discovered. These options include QuickNote and Geeknote, which offer slightly different approaches to working with notes.
QuickNote
QuickNote [1] is a web-based note-taking application, which means that you can host QuickNote on your own server and use the application from anywhere using any machine with a browser (Figure 1).
Simplicity is QuickNote's key design principle. The application consists of only three files (a PHP script, a .css stylesheet, and a .conf configuration file), and the application can be deployed in a few minutes. To begin, grab the latest release of the application from the project's GitHub repository or use git to fetch the most recent source code:
