Via’s Netnotes to Operate with Linux
The chip manufacturer Via Technologies has introduced a new notebook class intended to run via Linux OS. The Via chips-equipped Netnotes will initially only be available in China.
The new notebook category is to combine the low price and compact size of the Netbook with the performance capabilities of the notebook. The first devices should already be on the market this month in China with the help the Via partner program Global Mobility Bazaar.In addition to Windows Vista and Windows XP, future Netnotes will support all current Linux distributions.
These little powerhouses feature monitor resolutions ranging from 1024x600 and 1366x768 pixels on screens available from 10.2 to 12.1 inches.In terms of processor options, the Via C7(the mobile version) and the slightly smaller and quicker Via Nano will be utilized,respectively. The Via VX855 Media System processor will provide for high definition display as of May. RAM is equipped with DDR2 and comprises a maximum of 2 GB, the hard drive 160 GB, or 320 as hard disk. The weight of this sleek little machine is less than 3 lbs.
