For many years now, Intel has developed processors with built-in video acceleration. This hardware video acceleration has the effect of reducing latencies between the Graphical Processing Unit (GPU) and the processor cores. The interface also provides access to features built into the GPU, such as H.264 encoding, scaling, MPEG decoding, and so on.
