mozStorage

WRITE ACCESS

Article from Issue 121/2010

The PublicSQL article in the October 2010 issue was interesting, and I’m sure readers would be interested to know that you can use the mozStorage API to write data to a local SQLite database.

This gives SQLite an edge over PublicSQL – especially in contexts where users might want to harvest data from the web and store it locally. The limitation, of course, is that the mozStorage option is restricted to browsers built on the Mozilla engine, but many of us can live with that. A nice example of mozStorage and JavaScript in action is the Zotero Firefox extension. Details of the API are at https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Storage. Keep up the good work! -Jim

LM: Thanks for the information. I’m sure many readers will be interested in the mozStorage extension. We are happy to pass on this link to another promising project from the ever-innovative Mozilla team.
