NixOS is an immutable distribution known for its unique package manager. Codenamed Warbler, the 25.05 release will receive bug fixes and security updates until the end of 2025. It includes both rewritten utilities for its package manager and the addition of a tool with the ability to create platform-specific disk images from NixOS configurations. Among numerous other tools, it offers:

  • A self-hosting VPN that supports endpoints on a remote server and better masking against Deep Packet Inspection
  • A graphical configurator for Dygma keyboards
  • A tool to create complex keyboard shortcuts
  • Web tools for scanners, calendars, and time tracking
  • A suite of reverse-engineering tools
  • A web page bookmarking service

and over two dozen other new features. The result is a distribution designed for advanced users and specialists.
