The most common reasons people give for not using Linux don't hold up any more (if they ever did!).

Last month, I told you that I had determined the 10 reasons why people said they could not use Linux, and that I had written a talk that said those 10 reasons were either not true or never had been true. I wrote the original talk in 2002 and updated it in 2009. I may have to address some of these this month and the rest next month.

Let's take the "reasons" one by one.

Lack of applications was the first reason, and in 1994 (when I first started using Linux), this was fairly true. It was the same for every new operating system/hardware combination. It took time for the application vendors to do their port, test it, etc. But GNU/Linux was different. Linux came with a lot of functionality that Unix systems administrators used to create web servers, firewalls, DNS servers, etc.
