Android 3.0 Rumored for Q4 2010
New information suggests October release date.
Rumors are circulating about Google's next version of Android, the open source, Linux-based mobile operating system. Version 3.0 (Codename: Gingerbread) will supposedly require a 1GHz CPU and at least 512MB of RAM onboard, making it a shoe-in for high-end smartphones. Gingerbread will also support a screen resolution as high as 1280x760.
Gingerbread will also feature an overhauled UI, which based on the recent announcement that Android had acquired Palm's Human Interface and User Experience VP, is a natural step. It's also rumored Google isn't ditching Android 2.2 with the release of 3.0, but rather codeveloping the operating systems, keeping 2.2 up to date on lower end devices and 3.0 on high-end phones and possibly tablets.
Again, this isn't confirmed, as Google is remaining quiet on the subject. Until there's actual confirmation, keep it in perspective.
