KDE 4 to Appear Two Months Later
The KDE project is postponing the release of version 4 of its free desktop environment by two months. According to the latest announcements, KDE 4.0.0 will not be appearing until December 20, 2007.
According to an announcement by the release team, more time is needed to work on critical components of KDE 4. The previous release date was October 23, but even this deadline was too late for some Linux distributions, such as Fedora to integrate the next generation of the desktop with their latest releases.
The new roadmap envisages two extra beta versions. For this reason, the version of KDE 4 released at the end of October will not be the final, but the fourth beta. The freeze is scheduled for November 19, with the first release candidate expected to see the light of day November 21. The KDE Wiki has more details on the schedule and roadmap.
