Moblin Pre-installed on Dell Netbooks
The first netbooks with Moblin pre-installed come from Dell. The first Mini 10v system is already available and image files ready for download.
Intel finally let the cat out of the bag at the Developer Forum in San Francisco. The first netbooks with Moblin are from Dell and contain a version of Moblin with the somewhat unwieldy name Ubuntu Moblin Remix Developer Edition, a developer pre-version of Moblin 2.0.
According to the press release, the systems are optimized for the Atom processor and should give the developer community the opportunity to test Moblin and write applications based on it: "The delivery of Ubuntu Moblin Remix on a shipping netbook means that features like power management, wireless networking and suspend/resume are pre-tested. This enables developers to focus on writing value-added software."
The first system is already available on a Dell Mini 10v and more models should follow. The 900-MByte ISO image is based on the current Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope and is ready for download. Users of other netbooks with Intel Atom CPUs can thereby give Moblin a test.
