New Wine with More Functions
A new version of Wine, the program loader that lets Windows run on Linux, has been released.
Amongst the improvements are a Gecko engine update and better region support in GdiPlus. The library, introduced in 2001, incorporates Gdi32 and takes care of 2D support. Winegcc, Wine's GCC wrapper, with the inclusion of a "-b" option, now enables cross-compilation.
Wine 1.1.15 has also begun with the support of MS Text Framework and contains many fixes for regression tests on Windows. Other fixes prevent the Black & White demo crashing and have rectified an install fault in the VMware Infrastructure Client. Fixes for the Freenet SMS software and the DOSBox are also included.
A detailed list of changes and improvements can be found in the project announcement. A source code download is available here, with most of the large distributions having source packages ready for access which can be easily installed via the package manager. Information about how external packages can be integrated can be found in the download section of the Wine website.
