Free CMS Plone 3.0 with Version Control
The Plone Foundation has released version 3.0 of its content management software.
The popular, Zope-based Plone is available in 35 languages, and is used by numerous corporations and organizations including the US space agency, NASA, and Ebay. The developer team took over a year to produce the latest version, and has announced new features such as a new integrated version control system, automatic integrity checking and a full-text search function for Word and PDF files.
Thanks to the version control system users can now monitor changes to pages and revert to previous versions of documents. The integrity checker updates links when pages are moved. If referenced pages are deleted, the system issues a warning. The new version has an integrated Ajax-based editor which provides an additional, editable document view. The developers have also updated the graphical HTML editor to Kupu 1.4, and integrated a more clear-cut rights system for users and groups.
Plone 3.0 is released under the GPL and supports Linux, Windows, Mac OS X, FreeBSD, and Solaris. The CMS can be downloaded free of charge from the project site.
