Open Search Server 1.1 with Synonym and ODF Support
Open Search Server, the free Web and document search engine, is now available in version 1.1.
The first stable release of the Open Search Server Java software now includes a Web and file crawler and uploaded documents can be searched. The server can handle MS Word and Powerpoint, Open Document Format (ODF), HTML, XML and PDF files.
Open Search Server supports 16 languages, including now Romanian, Turkish, Danish, Russian and Chinese characters. It includes a spellchecker and synonym dictionary, and the algorithm identifies language conjugations and declensions.
The server, that shares the acronym OSS with a few other entities, uses the Apache Lucene search engine and Tomcat servlet container. The OSS code is under GLPv3 licensing and available on the project homepage for Linux and other UNIX-like systems, as well as for Windows and Mac OS X.
