The road to the final version of Ubuntu 9.04 still has the release candidate as its penultimate goal. Not much has changed in it.

On the project mailing list, Dan Williams announced the new version 0.7.1 of NetworkManager that provides a bunch of enhancements.

The udev subsystem allows the Linux kernel, together with a userland program, to manage device nodes dynamically, adding and removing them at will. It has now been revealed that the communication channel between the kernel and program fails to authenticate, so that users can assume root privileges.

The eBox project integrates web server, proxy, DNS, LDAP, Postfix, OpenSSL, load balancing and more in their server, which should provide small and medium size businesses comprehensive network infrastructures, and is now available in version 1.0.

An update for the new, stabler version of Debian 5.0 has appeared over Easter.

French Linux specialist, Mandriva, has released version RC2 (codenamed Estephe) of their Linux 2009 Spring.

The patent war between Microsoft and TomTom may be resolved in court, but it hasn't ended. At least that's what the lawyers at the Software Freedom Law Center think, and Jim Zemlin of the Linux Foundation is further considering the implications.
