OpenWGA CMS Is Free Software
The Innovation Gate firm has released its OpenWGA version 5.0 content management system under GPL.
The OpenWGA Web CMS is Java-based and, thanks to the JSP tag library, requires no Java knowledge. To handle the business logic, OpenWGA uses its own TMLScript server-side scripting language based on JavaScript syntax.
OpenWGA provides a developer environment named OpenWGA Developer Studio that includes numerous wizards and version control. The system is capable of authentication and provides complete plugins to deliver forums, blogs, wikis and photo galleries, even a plugin for user management.
According to the firm, the software began development in 2001 and has been available as Web Gate Anywhere (WGA) since 2002. Innovation Gate wants to acquire a broader user audience with its GPL licensing.
Apart from the Community Edition under GPLv3, the company also ships an Enterprise Edition that provides additional repository implementations for DB2, Oracle, MS-SQL and Lotus Domino. A content approval workflow feature helps companies in compliance structures. The enterprise version also provides authentication via LDAP, Novell e-directory and MS Active Directory. The annual license fee per server is just under EU 8,000.
